Wonderwoods and Vesteda win International BREEAM Awards 2026

Double success at the International BREEAM Awards 2026 in Londen: both Wonderwoods, developed by a.s.r. real assets, and the residential portfolio of Vesteda Investment Management received awards in London. CFP Green Buildings supported both projects through their BREEAM journeys and is proud to see these exceptional projects receive international recognition.

Each year, the International BREEAM Awards recognise projects and organisations from around the world that demonstrate outstanding sustainability performance across the built environment. This year, three projects supported by CFP Green Buildings were nominated: Wonderwoods, Vesteda’s residential portfolio and PwC’s Dutch office portfolio.

At the awards ceremony on 30 September, Wonderwoods and Vesteda were both announced as winners in their respective categories.

Wonderwoods wins Climate Resilience Excellence Award

Wonderwoods, developed by a.s.r. real assets, won the Climate Resilience Excellence Award. This category recognises projects that demonstrate how climate risks can be addressed through the design, operation and management of buildings.

Located in the heart of Utrecht, Wonderwoods brings together living, working and nature. With approximately 300 trees and 75,000 plants and shrubs, the building creates a vertical ecosystem in which biodiversity and climate resilience have been integral considerations from the outset.

Water management also forms an important part of the design. A water storage system beneath the building can collect up to 150,000 litres of rainwater during periods of heavy rainfall and release it gradually. In addition, a long-term management and maintenance strategy helps safeguard the building’s ecological value for years to come.

Wonderwoods previously achieved BREEAM Outstanding for its office spaces and BREEAM Excellent for its residential areas. CFP Green Buildings supported a.s.r. real assets as BREEAM Expert throughout the BREEAM-NL In-Use certification process.

The international award is a significant recognition of a.s.r. real assets’ approach at Wonderwoods, demonstrating how nature, climate resilience and property development can be successfully integrated.

Vesteda wins In-Use Performance Award

Vesteda Investment Management was also recognised at the awards, with its residential portfolio winning the In-Use Performance Award. The category recognises buildings and portfolios that use BREEAM In-Use to demonstrate continuous improvement in their sustainability performance.

Together with CFP Green Buildings and Longevity Partners, Vesteda certified almost its entire Dutch residential portfolio: approximately 28,000 rental homes across nearly 500 residential complexes. This makes it one of the largest BREEAM In-Use residential certification programmes in the Netherlands.

Vesteda uses BREEAM not simply to record sustainability performance, but as a framework for identifying opportunities for further improvement. Energy consumption, carbon emissions, water consumption and climate risks are linked to maintenance, renovation and investment decisions across the portfolio. This approach is also delivering measurable results. Energy intensity across the portfolio fell from 101.9 kWh/m² in 2022 to 90.1 kWh/m² in 2025. Water consumption and carbon emissions have also decreased.

CFP Green Buildings acts as BREEAM Expert within the programme, working alongside Vesteda and Longevity Partners on the assessments and on structuring the data and evidence required across the portfolio.

The award provides international recognition of Vesteda’s long-term approach and the way it uses BREEAM as a practical framework to support the continued improvement of thousands of homes.

International recognition for two exceptional projects

Although Wonderwoods and Vesteda’s residential portfolio are very different in scale and character, both demonstrate what can be achieved when sustainability is embedded in the way property is developed, managed and improved.

We warmly congratulate a.s.r. real assets and Vesteda Investment Management on this international recognition, as well as all the partners and colleagues who contributed to both projects.

For CFP Green Buildings, it is a privilege to have supported both award-winning projects as BREEAM Expert and to continue working with our clients and partners to make buildings and portfolios more sustainable and future-ready.
