It had been a long wait, but this morning the sailing teams of the Green Buildings Regatta could set sail again. After an excellent start, Sport NL Groen eventually landed the win, followed by VFM and Smart Workplace in 2nd and 3rd place.
No fewer than 17 teams with 20 boats entered to compete for the coveted Green Buildings Regatta cup at the marina in Muiderzand. After a warm welcome from Bram Adema of CFP Green Buildings, 250 participants took to the water for the practice race to perfect the last routines.
Then, before the start, the participants were welcomed by Olympic sailing star Marit Bouwmeester. Just before the race, she gave some crucial tips to the participants: “There’s not a lot of wind today, but if you play it right you can take advantage of that. Make sure you start quickly, because that’s 80% of the game. And if you sail in front, wreck the wind for the boats behind you. That’s how you win!
Around 1:30 PM, Marit Bouwmeester fired the starting pistol, and the competition got underway. The teams got off to a flying start, with Sport NL Groen quickly taking the lead and winning the first race. In the second race, after a general false start, ISS eventually crossed the finish line first.
Sport NL Groen emerged as the race winner after two thrilling races, with the Xanadu. In second place was VFM with Exabyte. In third was Smart Workplace with Gotcha2.
We can look back on a good, clean and exciting race, and are already looking forward to the next edition on 9 September 2022!
