More than a label: three CFP colleagues on working at a B Corp
March marks B Corp Month worldwide. But what does it actually mean to work at a B Corp? Is it a label, a certification, or something fundamentally different? At CFP Green Buildings, a certified B Corp, three colleagues share their perspectives, from personal awareness to driving systemic change in the real estate sector.
Growing into impact – Danja Snoeijen, MarCom Manager
When Danja joined CFP 7.5 years ago, she had never even heard of B Corp. It wasn’t a conscious decision to join a certified impact organisation. Only later did CFP begin the B Corp journey, and she found herself growing alongside it. “Through my work, I became increasingly aware of my own impact. Not only professionally, but personally as well.”
What started as an interest in sustainability gradually shaped her personal choices. Eating less meat. Consuming more consciously. Travelling less frequently, but with greater purpose. Such as her trip to the Maldives, where she contributed to whale shark research. “I wouldn’t want to work for an organisation that doesn’t create sustainable impact, or where I can’t contribute to it myself.”
For Danja, B Corp is not a tick-box exercise. It’s a process of continuous growth, for both the organisation and the people within it.
Measuring rather than merely talking -Catherine Luyt, Head of International Operations
For Catherine, B Corp was already familiar territory. In South Africa, she previously worked at a B Corp as a sustainability consultant. There, she learned how to make sustainability tangible and measurable. “You can say a lot about sustainability. But if you cannot demonstrate the carbon reduction you have achieved, it remains abstract.”
When she learned during her interview process that CFP had started its B Corp certification journey, it gave her immediate confidence. “It showed that the company does not just sell sustainability, but embeds it within its own organisation. That you are willing to hold yourself to account.”
For Catherine, the strength of B Corp lies in its independent assessment and the ambition it represents. “B Corp demonstrates that you are prepared to make your impact transparent and continuously improve. That makes me proud of what we stand for as an organisation.” She concludes: “If you want to be impact driven, you need to substantiate it. With data, with policies, with clear targets. That is where B Corp makes the difference.”
Scaling impact – Inge Westerink, Head of Consultancy Operations
For Inge, B Corp is about structurally embedding impact into strategy and operations. “Impact delivers greater value for an organisation when it is well substantiated and integrated.”
Within CFP, she has been actively involved in processes such as the EcoVadis certification and the development of related policies. This gave her first hand insight into what it takes to measure ambition and anchor it in day to day processes.
In her daily work, Inge supports large real estate portfolios in becoming more sustainable and achieving certifications. But for her, it goes beyond obtaining a label. “Sustainability only becomes scalable when it is supported by a strong business case. By linking sustainability to returns, risk management and value creation, you enable structural change.”
Her ambition to amplify impact extends beyond client projects. Inge is an impact creator, someone who actively looks for ways to accelerate positive change and shares those insights online. Outside her work at CFP, she regularly publishes blogs and vlogs on sustainable choices and systemic transformation.
According to Inge, companies considering B Corp certification should not underestimate the preparation required. “It demands collaboration across departments, clear responsibilities and reliable data. But that is precisely its strength. It connects people internally and makes impact part of everyday operations.”
CFP Green Buildings as a B Corp: more than a label
What do their stories have in common? B Corp is not a marketing tool. It requires transparency, measurable outcomes and a willingness to continuously improve.
Or, as Inge puts it: “Impact must be evidenced and embedded.” And as Danja reflects: “It changes not only how you work, but how you see the world.”
For CFP, being a B Corp is not an end goal. It is a compass, a way of ensuring that impact is not just promised, but demonstrated and continuously strengthened.
Would you like to work at a B Corp that takes impact seriously?
