From data to scale: CFP on the future of the built environment at TRANSFORM Sydney

At TRANSFORM in Sydney, the annual conference of the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA), CFP Green Buildings hosted two in-depth sessions as a Gold Partner. The event brings together professionals from across the real estate value chain to share knowledge and explore the future of the built environment.

Session 1: NXTBLDNG data lake launched for 13.5 million buildings

Bram Adema, together with Grant Cairns (Commonwealth Bank of Australia), presented the launch of the NXTBLDNG data lake in Australia. This data source provides, for the first time, an integrated view of 13.5 million buildings, including more than 3 million commercial assets and 11 million homes.

This scale and data quality create a valuable foundation to gain insight into building performance and take targeted action. The data lake supports building owners, financial institutions and governments in making better-informed decisions, with impact on energy performance, asset value and climate risk.

During the session, it became clear that collaboration between banks, government and market parties is essential to turn these insights into large-scale improvements.

Session 2: From insight to impact: scaling residential retrofit

In a second session, Nanda Verschoor addressed one of the sector’s biggest challenges: scaling the retrofit of existing housing.

While the required technologies are already available, large-scale implementation often lags behind. According to Nanda, the issue is not technology, but fragmentation in data, decision-making and financing.

“The key does not lie in new technology, but in connecting what already exists. Only by bringing together insights, concrete measures and financing can we truly scale.”

– Nanda Verschoor, Head of International Operations

Her session showed that the real breakthrough is no longer in technology, but in providing clarity to homeowners. Only when insight into a property is translated into concrete choices and connected to financing and execution does a scalable pathway for upgrading existing housing stock emerge.

Data and collaboration as accelerators

CFP’s contributions at TRANSFORM underline a clear conclusion: the next step in the built environment requires collaboration and the smart use of data.

This creates the foundation for scalable solutions, in Australia and globally.
