CFP contributes to the development of CRREM’s new quality standard
CFP Green Buildings is part of the Founding Cohort for the new CRREM Accredited Service Provider programme. Representing CFP, Inge Westerink, Head of Consultancy Operations, contributed to this international group of consultancy and real estate organisations that helped shape a quality framework for the application of CRREM analyses.
The Carbon Risk Real Estate Monitor (CRREM) has become a widely used methodology for assessing transition risks across real estate portfolios. As the adoption of CRREM continues to grow, so does the need for clear guidance on quality, transparency and the consistent application of the methodology. The new Accredited Service Provider programme aims to address this need.
Developing a shared quality standard
According to Inge Westerink, the initiative was driven by the desire to introduce greater quality assurance around the application of CRREM. “CRREM is an open framework that is widely used across the market. At the same time, there has not yet been a clear quality standard for organisations carrying out CRREM analyses. This programme is designed to establish a shared quality framework for the application of the methodology.”
To develop the programme, CRREM brought together a select group of international consultancy and real estate organisations. Throughout a series of workshops, participants discussed topics such as quality control, validation, onboarding, transparency and the future development of the programme. The outcomes of these discussions form the foundation of the first version of the accreditation framework.
Practical expertise at the heart of the programme
The Founding Cohort brought together a select group of international consultancy and real estate organisations with extensive experience in applying CRREM across different markets and asset types. CFP contributed practical expertise gained from working with a wide range of real estate portfolios and took part in discussions on quality assurance, transparency and the further development of the accreditation programme. At the same time, the collaboration provided valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities organisations across different markets encounter when applying CRREM.

What does this mean for real estate owners?
For property owners, investors and asset managers, the programme is intended to support greater consistency and transparency in the application of CRREM analyses. This will make results more comparable and help organisations better substantiate investment decisions, decarbonisation strategies and roadmaps towards 2050.
CFP also expects CRREM to play an increasingly important role in strategic real estate decision-making. “CRREM will only become more important in the years ahead. It helps organisations gain insight into transition risks, investment timing and the measures required to move towards climate targets. At portfolio level in particular, it provides valuable strategic guidance.”
Looking ahead
The Founding Cohort was introduced during London Climate Action Week. Over the coming months, CRREM will continue rolling out the Accredited Service Provider programme, taking another step towards further professionalising and standardising the application of CRREM across the real estate sector.
The formal launch of the programme is expected in Summer 2026, subject to approval by the CRREM Foundation Board. More information about the Founding Cohort can be found on the CRREM website.
